Sorel-Tracy is a city located in the province of Quebec, Canada. It lies on the north bank of the Saint Lawrence River, approximately 70 kilometers (43 miles) east of Montreal. History

Sorel-Tracy was founded in 1662 by French colonist Jacques Boucher de Niverville, who built an estate on the north bank of the river. The name “Sorel” comes from the Sorel River, which flows into the Saint Lawrence River just west of the city. In 1898, the municipality was renamed to Sorel-Tracy to reflect its growing connection with the nearby town of Tracy.
