Messines is situated about 25 kilometers east of Lévis city, near the north shore of the Saint Lawrence River. History
The area that is now Messines was first inhabited by indigenous peoples, specifically the Abenaki tribe. The municipality was officially founded in 1855 under the name “Ménerville-Sud”. It was later renamed to Messines in 1921.
