HDD Data Recovery

Level 1: Logical Recovery

Take advantage of preferred pricing when your storage drive is still recognized by the computer and shows its correct full capacity in Windows, macOS, or Linux.

Level 2: HDD Repair

If your hard drive is clicking, making scratchy sounds, or not appearing in your computer’s BIOS/UEFI or OS disk management tools, this usually indicates a serious hardware failure. The drive is no longer communicating properly with the system.

Common Causes

  • Firmware corruption – The drive’s internal software has become corrupted or unreadable.
  • Failed circuit board (PCB) – The electronics board that controls the drive is dead or damaged.
  • Dead or stuck read/write heads – The delicate heads that read and write data have failed or are physically stuck.
  • Scratched or damaged platters – The magnetic disks that store your data have surface damage.
  • Seized motor / spindle – The motor that spins the platters is stuck or burned out.

Professional Recovery Process

In these cases, recovery requires specialized work performed in a Class 100 cleanroom. Our lab typically performs one or more of the following procedures:

  • Firmware repair or reprogramming
  • Donor circuit board replacement (with firmware matching)
  • Head stack replacement
  • Platters transfer to a compatible donor drive
  • Spindle motor replacement

Our standard HDD recovery service is priced by drive capacity, giving you clear and predictable costs with no hidden fees.

Level 3: HDD Advanced

This level is required when a complete head stack assembly replacement is necessary. We source high-quality donor drives that were manufactured in the same batch, at the same factory, ensuring perfect compatibility with your drive. Donor drives are valuable and increasingly rare commodities, which is why Level 3 recovery is one of our more specialized (and higher-cost) services.

Donor Drive Policy

If the read/write heads from a donor drive are required for your recovery, we will contact you for approval and provide a clear quote for the additional cost before proceeding. If no donor parts are needed, your recovery will be completed at the original quoted price. If some heads are still functional and you prefer not to use a donor drive, we can perform a partial recovery using the working heads.

Important Note for Large Capacity Drives

Drives larger than 8TB are limited to logical recovery, PCB replacement, and firmware repair only. We do not perform donor head replacement on drives over 8TB due to technical limitations and risk factors.
